A few years ago, "De Toekomst Laat Me Koud" (The Future Leaves Me Cold) , a compilation featuring the best of the "Nieuwe Nederlandse Wave," the Dutch-language version of new wave, and the Neue Deutsche Welle, was released. A similar compilation has now emerged from the "Vlaamse Onderstroom" (Flemish Undercurrent): Dromen Zijn Vervlogen (Dreams Are Gone ). Idiosyncratic Belgian pop from the 1980s, never successful or long forgotten, until now. The songs are all pointed, a bit cynical, and filled with a confusing brand of social critique.
