Peguena Vertigem de Amor is Portuguese for fear of heights conquered by love. And Sessa sounds rather filled with scorching love here. Or does it just sound that way because he makes unadulterated MPB ( música popular brasileira )? This is music for those who love listening to Clube da Esquina or early Marcos Valle and then sigh that "they don't make them like that anymore." Sessa still makes "them": lushly arranged summer breezes with samba rhythms and mirage-like vocals. The clever thing is that the singer, real name Sergio Sayeg, from São Paulo, doesn't necessarily make it sound nostalgic. This is craftsmanship—and that doesn't age.
