Salt-n-Pepa had a world hit in 1993 with 'Whatta Man' together with En Vogue. 'Very Necessary', the album on which the song was included, also became a great success, because in addition to a Grammy Award (for the single 'None Of Your Business'), roles in Hollywood films and a successful tour, 'Very Necessary' became the most successful album by female rappers ever. That has everything to do with the quality of the album. Hip Hop, inspired by soul, funk and dub, all with a cool New York accent, is cheerful, catchy and actually completely contemporary. Good art never becomes old-fashioned
