All Systems Are Lying ; only the sound system of Soulwax speaks the truth. While many artists are already waiting in the wings to follow their lead (e.g., Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul, Marie Davidson), the brothers David and Stephen Dewaele keep the ball rolling. These Flemish alternative dance pioneers are masters of buildup. The third track, "Meanwhile On The Continent," for example, is all buildup (those drums!). The next track invariably leads the way. Yes, there are plenty of copycats by now, but how to truly create that precise, slick, meter-thick synth sound seems like a secret Soulwax will take to the grave.
